Common Corrugated Guardrail Solutions for Different Road Types

Corrugated guardrails are categorized into various protection levels, including SB, A, B, and C, each suitable for different road types like highways, main roads, and rural roads.

1. Highway Guardrail Solutions

Highway guardrails are primarily used for median strips and roadsides. Due to high vehicle speeds, the new standard A-level reinforced corrugated guardrails are preferred.

  • Guardrail Panel Selection:
    • Highways typically use 3-wave guardrail panels.
    • For enhanced protection on curves, thicker 4mm 3-wave panels are recommended.
  • Post Selection:
    • Type: Highways generally use round posts with a diameter of 140mm.
    • Spacing: Standard post spacing is 4 meters, while reinforced sections use a 2-meter spacing.
  • Installation Method:
    • The recommended installation method for highways is pre-embedding the posts.
    • For median strips, double-sided guardrails can be considered to reduce material usage based on specific road conditions.

2. Urban Expressways and Main Road Solutions

Urban expressways and main roads usually adopt A-level or a combination of A and B level corrugated guardrails.

  • Guardrail Panel Selection:
    • 4mm thick 2-wave guardrail panels are common.
    • 3mm thick 2-wave panels can be used in less hazardous sections.
  • Post Selection:
    • Type: Round posts with a diameter of 140mm or 114mm are typically used.
    • Spacing: Standard post spacing is 4 meters, reduced to 2 meters for reinforced sections in hazardous areas.
  • Installation Method:
    • Pre-embedding posts is recommended.
    • Similar to highways, double-sided guardrails can be considered for median strips based on site conditions.

3. Rural and General Road Solutions

Rural and general roads generally use B-level or a combination of B and C level corrugated guardrails.

  • Guardrail Panel Selection:
    • 3mm or 2.5mm thick 2-wave guardrail panels are common.
    • 4mm thick 2-wave panels are recommended for more hazardous sections.
  • Post Selection:
    • Type: Round posts with a diameter of 114mm are generally used.
    • Spacing: Standard post spacing is 4 meters, with a reduced 2-meter spacing in hazardous areas.
  • Installation Method:
    • Pre-embedding posts is recommended.
    • Double-sided guardrails can be used for median strips based on specific road conditions.

By choosing the appropriate guardrail type, post size and spacing, and installation method based on the specific road environment and traffic conditions, optimal safety and functionality can be achieved.
