The waved-beam guardrails have become universal in our lives, enhancing the beauty of our world while also ensuring our safety while traveling. This guide includes a detailed illustration of how these critical safety components are installed.
The installation process of collision-resistant guardrails includes:
Layout: To ensure that the layout is carried out accurately, considering existing features, in particular underground utilities, to avoid damage during construction.
Post Installation:
- According to the design drawings and layout, install the posts.
- Excavation can be done for the laying of the foundation of the post. After excavation, the area shall be appropriately backfilled using suitable material and compacted in layers not more than 10 cm each. The compaction density shall not be lesser than the adjacent natural soil.
- After installation, posts are surveyed and aligned with a theodolite to attain a straight and smooth line. In case there is a need for major corrections, the post will be removed the foundation compacted, and a new post will be re-installed.
Wave Beam Installation:
- The installation of the wave beam is very critical and perhaps the most challenging part.
- Individual sections are butted together with splicing bolts and attached to the posts with connecting bolts. Bolts should not be tightened until all sections are in place and ready to square up. That way, minor adjustments can be made if necessary for a smooth, straight line without lumps or hollows.
- Wave beams should be set with the first section over the second, the second over the third, and so on with the traffic flow.
- The top surface of the wave beams should be parallel with road curvature, and the side should be parallel with route curvature.
- After all wave beams are installed, the entire line should be adjusted carefully. Only when both curves meet the requirements can the bolts be finally tightened.
Key Points:
- Wave beam guardrails are semi-rigid structures of interlocked corrugated steel panels supported by posts.
- During construction, detailed information on existing facilities, most especially the underground utilities, is required.
- After installation, there has to be accurate alignment with the road centerline.
- Installation of wave beams is supposed to be carried out following a smooth and continuous line without any irregularities.
With meticulous installation by the detailed steps, there will be guaranteed safety and efficiency of high-speed collision-resistant wave beam guardrails, ensuring safety and proper roads.
